Pillsbury's Mate
empty Pillsbury's Mate is a variation of Morphy's Mate, but the Rook delivers checkmate while the Bishop prevents the opposing King from fleeing to the corner square. Below is an example of delivering the mate using a sacrifice, and following is one of Pillsbury's games in which he effectuated the mate with the help of Black with variations showing additional ways to reach the mate in the same game. After the second board (with Pillsbury's game), there is a link to download a pgn file containing the example and the game.
